Walk Around The Vehicle Slowly
Before arranging disposal, give the car a proper walk-around. Not a polished inspection, just a practical look at what a collector will need to know. Check the tyres, wheels, doors, boot, bonnet, glass, bumper damage and whether anything is dragging or loose.
If the vehicle is squeezed beside a wall, hedge or outbuilding, look at the side you normally ignore. A missing wheel, locked steering, flat tyre or broken suspension corner is easier to mention at quote stage than to discover when the collection truck is outside.
Check Whether It Can Be Moved
The biggest question is not always whether the engine starts. A dead car can still be collected if it rolls, steers and has a clear line for loading. A car with seized brakes, locked wheels or no keys may need more planning.
Try to answer these points plainly: can the steering unlock, can the handbrake release, are the tyres holding air, and is there enough room in front or behind for recovery equipment? If you are not sure, say that. Guessing can turn a manageable Bentham disposal job into a delay.
If the car has not moved for months, do not assume last year's answer is still true. A fresh check may reveal a flat tyre, stuck brake or blocked turning space that changes the collection plan before anyone arrives at the address.

Have the registration, mileage if known, key status, condition notes and collection address ready. If the car has missing parts or has been partly stripped, say so. If it has been standing for a long time, mention weather exposure and whether animals, damp or mould have affected the interior.
These first checks do not need specialist knowledge. They just turn uncertainty into useful facts. When the collector knows the vehicle, access and owner situation before arrival, the disposal job is more likely to run cleanly and with fewer last-minute questions.
